During the presentation of her credentials as ambassador for the Dominican Republic in Italy on Monday, 4 April 2016, Alba Maria (Peggy) Cabral met with President Sergio Matarella of Italy and the re-opening of the Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic topped the agenda, according to a press release from the Dominican Embassy in Rome.
Cabral stated that the re-opening of the Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic would honor the historic ties between the two nations. “The social-economic development of my country is defined by the role played by prominent families of the Italian Diaspora and the 150,000 tourists who visit every year,” she stated. An estimated 28,000 Dominicans live and work in Italy.
The presentation of credentials is good news as it could mean the re-opening of the embassy is imminent.
