The PRM’s vice presidential candidate, Carolina Mejia has spoken out for turning economic growth into better quality of life for all Dominicans. In a press release, former President Hipolito Mejia’s daughter says that it is time that small-scale businesses owned by women were given improved access to credit. “It is not enough just to recognize economic growth, when that growth is useless if it is not turned into better quality of life,” she said. She highlighted the PRM is prioritizing quality of life for each Dominican so that economic growth can become a reality for all. She also attended a luncheon meeting in Los Girasoles yesterday, Thursday 7 April 2015 accompanied by candidate for National District mayor David Collado.
Mejia added that in a PRM government laws would be enforced to strengthen the nation’s institutions. She favored increasing city government funds and creating recreational, cultural and sports spaces for young people. She said that in Luis Abinader’s government, all municipalities would have a municipal arts center. She favored disbursing 10% of the National Budget for the city governments, which currently receive around 4%.
She spoke of reducing crime that she says the government of President Danilo Medina and the PLD have failed to tackle efficiently. She criticized the high cost of living and said that under the Medina government Dominicans pay the highest prices for fuels in the Americas, an injustice she said would change when the Abinader-Mejia government comes into power.
