Guillermo Moreno, running for President on the AlPais ticket, says he is the only truly different option. He said that the structural changes the country needs will not happen overnight, but citizens can express their disapproval of the status quo by voting and joining politics to change politics. He said AlPais (No. 26 on the ballot) is the only party that has broken away from the old Dominican political style, which is characterized by political patronage, inefficiency and links to corruption. The other contenders in the race have been in government over the past 50 years n including the PRSC that has allied with the PRM and the PRD that has allied with the ruling PLD that has been in government since 2004.
He pointed out that people in the communities he visits don’t come up to him to ask for money. “It is because they know we do not have money, because we are doing politics in a different way.” He said traditional political parties have corrupted politics and the state and have allowed and encouraged a model of society based on inequality and exclusion.
He said that his model for the health sector is to turn the current cure model into one of prevention, where the family doctor is a key figure together with health promoters and volunteers.
He advocated putting a bus transport model into service that will be truly efficient, fast, secure and comfortable with air-conditioned units and access for people with disabilities.
