PRM presidential candidate Luis Abinader says that the fact that a video about alleged acts of corruption was pulled from TV screening last Friday, 8 April 2016, demonstrates how much control the government has over communications media.
Abinader was speaking at the Inter-American Press Society (SIP) meeting in Punta Cana when he reiterated his criticism of Telesistema Channel 11 and Color Vision Channel 9, which would not allow the video to be shown.
According to Abinader, the government has established control over the content and opinions of main communication media by use of subtle intervention and economic constraints.
Yesterday, Monday 11 April 2016 businessman Jose Luis Corripio denied he had pulled the video due to government pressure, but said that it contained two or three points they considered could be subject to legal action.
The video is mainly a compilation of archive footage that has already aired.
