The Concurso de Arte Eduardo Leon Jimenes jurors have announced the names of the 18 artists and two artist collectives selected as finalists for the Dominican Republic’s leading art contest. This year’s judges were Jose Roca (Colombia), Alanna Lockward (Dominican Republic) and Guadalupe Alvarez (Ecuador) who chose from 171 individual artists and 11 artist collectives that submitted entries. The selected finalists are: Andrea Ottenwalder, Carlos de Leon, David Perez-Karmadavis, Dhimas Santos, Elvin Diaz, Ernesto Rodriguez, Fausto Ortiz, George Heinsen, Gina de la Rocha Goico, Guadalupe Casasnovas, Javier Liriano Maria, Juan Alfonso Zapata, Karol Ann Baez, Mencia Zagarella, Natalia Ortega, Norian Cruz, Quisqueya Henriquez, Raquel Paiewonsky and Maurice Sanchez. The collectives are Maurice Sanchez and Joan Manuel Diaz and Tatiana Fernandez and Wendy Patricia Espinal Cabral.
The artists will now have until 19-23 September to submit their final entries. The exhibition will open on Thursday, 20 October 2016 and the awards will be announced on 19 January 2017.
