The oldest electoral observer organization in the Dominican Republic, civil society group Participacion Ciudadana has not yet been officially cleared by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to observe the 15 May 2016 general elections. PC submitted its application in December 2015. JCE judge Eddy Olivares said he has pushed for the issue to be put on the agenda and that the organization’s preparations to observe the elections should not be affected. JCE president Roberto Rosario said there was no problem with Participacion Ciudadana observing. He said there is a ruling for observing: “All who submit to observer rules are welcome to observe,” he said when interviewed yesterday, Monday 11 April 2016 during a visit to the Multimedios Diario Libre printing house where the electoral ballots are being printed.
Rosario told the press they have already printed seven million ballots of which around 60% are already packaged. The main printers for the ballots are Editorial Corripio and Multimedios Diario Libre. As reported, in 10 days time they will have printed the 23 million ballots needed for the election.
