Concern over US Embassy request

Presidential legal advisor Cesar Pina Toribio says that it would be what he described as “intolerable meddling” to allow the United States Embassy to play a greater role in the Dominican elections than is already established.

He pointed out that ambassadors are usually granted access to information about the whole electoral process and are invited to participate as observers, but for another country, no matter which, to take on the role of policing the Dominican elections would be both absurd and interfering.

Pina Toribio made his comments yesterday, Tuesday 12 April 2016 while being interviewed for Channel 25’s “Lenis Garcia Opiniones” program. He was referring to the US embassy’s request to allow several of its members to observe the elections.
