Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro was delayed at 7:30am yesterday, Tuesday 12 April 2016 after the emergency alarm system was set off inside one of the cars.
According to the Transport Reorganization Office (Opret) the alert was activated by two passengers, which meant that the train had to be completely evacuated at Los Tainos station leaving hundreds of people stranded who could not afford to wait and left to look for other means of public transport.
Opret spokesman Leonel Carrasco said the train was full but that once the system was reset service resumed as normal.
The two passengers were detained by Metro security staff.
