Yesterday, Tuesday 12 April 2016, President Danilo Medina inaugurated the first stage of an agricultural irrigation and water supply project in Pueblo Viejo, in the southwestern province of Azua. The new and repaired installations are expected to benefit more than 170,000 local residents.
The project aims to repair the Ysura canal from Villarpando to Tabara and replace the sluice gates that have come to the end of their useful life. There are also plans to build a sediment lake with a 200,000 cubic meter capacity that will improve water quality in the area as well as preventing blockages in the pipes.
