Central Bank governor in Washington

Central Bank governor Hector Valdez Albizu is taking part in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank spring meetings, which are being held between 13 and 16 April in Washington, DC. Valdez Albizu has scheduled important meetings with IMF Western Hemisphere Department director Alejandro Werner, during which they will review the situation of the Dominican economy and its outstanding performance in the Latin American context.

According to El Nuevo Diario, Valdez Albizu will also take part in the constituent meeting together with IMF executive director Octaviano Canuto. During this meeting, they will discuss the member countries new positions on the increase in the IMF membership fees. They will also be discussing the external conditions of the emerging nations, the performance of the United States economy, future prospects, as well as the implementation of new monetary policy tools taken on by the main central banks. The IMF is forecasting a global growth rate of 3.2% for 2016 and 3.5% for 2017. In the case of the Dominican Republic, the World Economic Outlook is pointing to a projected growth of 5.4% for 2016, which is the second highest in the Latin American region.
