Where to site an animal shelter?

The National District City Government (ADN) has responded to the Avenida Cayetano Germosen – Mirador del Sur residents’ association and agreed to find another location for its proposed home for stray animals. The community argued it would represent a potential health hazard and be a source of noise pollution in the peaceful area. According to the residents, the site was on a green area next to the community center. Mayor Roberto Salcedo, who is seeking reelection in the May poll, announced that the animal shelter would be relocated and said they were on the verge of deciding on a new location. He was speaking when campaigning with the support of former PRD mayor, Fello Subervi. Opponents to the shelter’s construction received support from environmentalists, veterinarians and health specialists.

The home will have space to house 40 dogs, a quarantine unit for 20 animals, and three modules with capacity for 30 cats.
