The fight against Zika goes on

Public Health Minister Altagracia Guzman Marcelino has confirmed that 1,249 cases of zika virus have been reported in the Dominican Republic, including 87 reported in pregnant patients, 19 of which have been confirmed. In addition there are 52 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome with 22 associated with the virus.

She said that they would continue to fight to eliminate the Aedes aegypti mosquito that transmits the virus and there would be national campaigns for this purpose over the weekend. In addition she said that now the country had a national laboratory to identify zika, dengue and chikungunya so it was no longer necessary to send samples to Atlanta or Puerto Rico.
