Explanation given for increase in blackouts

Even the so-called 24-hour power sectors are being affected by long blackouts and the CDEEE says the problems are being caused by a 491-megawatt deficit.

According to the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), generators producing 226 megawatts are out of service for maintenance while another 265 megawatts are off the grid for commercial reasons. The CDEEE explains that the deficit in generation is being compounded by the drought that has resulted in low levels in reservoirs at the dams that generate electricity. Power plants out of service include Itabo II (132 megawatts) and CESPM (Cogentrix) with 94 megawatts for maintenance.
