Four foreigners arrested

The Police has announced the arrest of four foreigners in the eastern region and the National District, accused of cloning credit cards, theft and possession of counterfeit dollar bills.

The arrested men are Bulgarian Aleckey Petrov Koralov, 33, Greek Latsis Spiros Vasilis, Serb Mario Malnar, 39, and Peruvian Gustavo Andres Ruiz Jimenez, 45.

Police Criminal Investigations Division (Dicrim) agents arrested Petrov Kolarov in possession of 51 blue VIP credit cards, three gold ones, one white one and a red visa card, a cloning machine and a cell phone.

A check against the Interpol database established that the Bulgarian had prior arrests in the United States and Paraguay for bank fraud and credit card cloning.

DICAT (the High-Tech Crime Investigation Department) arrested Spiros Vasilis as he was withdrawing money from an ATM in the National District, using what are believed to be cloned credit cards, while Malnar was arrested stealing a cell phone, a camera, an iPod and a watch from a Belgian tourist who had left the items inside a bag on a chair on the beach on the east coast.

Ruiz Jimenez was arrested after paying US$200 in counterfeit bills to a 27-year old woman in return for sexual relations. He said he had obtained the dollars in his country to travel to the Dominican Republic on holiday and had no idea they were fake.

All of the relevant embassies have been notified and the four are in custody awaiting court hearings.
