The Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) director, Alejandro Montas, says that they will be finishing the cleanup of seven creeks in the National District over the next four months, as reported in Listin Diario. Montas said that the work is being carried out simultaneously in streams and creeks in Gualey, Herrera, Ls Canitas, 24 April and Los Tres Brazos, at a cost of RD$450 million.
He was speaking during a tour along the creeks that measure some 5 km and whose cleanup will benefit nearly 257,000 local residents either directly or indirectly through the improvement of environmental health.
Montas said that although they have assessed 84 creeks in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo, they are currently working in Villa Eloisa, Alto de Cristo Rey in Los Tres Brazos, Arroyo Hondo, San Luis, Buenos Aires and El Indio. The official said that local churches, neighborhood groups and contractors have been supporting the initiative.
