A Dominican Army officer and executive of a free zone industry in Santiago is suspected of having killed himself by shooting himself in the head. 44-year old second lieutenant Samuel Arturo Mendez Carrasco was found dead inside his Ford Explorer in the area known as Siete Casas on Av. Yapur Dumit in La Barranquita in Santiago yesterday, Thursday 21 April 2016. Several weapons were found in the vehicle as well as a letter to his relatives, according to Police. His body was taken to the National Forensic Pathology Institute (Inacif) at the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez Regional Hospital for an autopsy to confirm what is suspected to have been a suicide. Mendez was employed at the Tabacalera Fuente in the Victor Espaillat Mera free zone industrial park in Santiago.
