Danilo big favorite in Gallup poll

The Gallup poll published in Hoy newspaper today, Monday 25 April 2016 shows that 63% of Dominican voters support ruling PLD party candidate, President Danilo Medina compared to 29% for leading opposition candidate, Luis Abinader, who is running for the PRM. The poll also revealed that eight out of 10 voters are convinced President Danilo Medina will win in the first round of voting on 15 May 2016. 63% of those polled believe that the ruling PLD party is using government funds in Medina’s campaign.

As reported in Diario Libre, President Medina’s prospects got a boost in March. The same poll carried out in January 2016 showed the President with 51.75% compared to 35.7% for Abinader. In March, however, Medina improved to 60.3%, while Abinader declined to 30.6%. The April poll shows he has grown to 63% versus 29.1%.

64% of those polled said they have been following the political campaigns with little or no interest, but 98% still said they planned to vote in the election. Of those, 86% said they had already decided for whom they would vote.

The poll was carried out from 13-19 April 2016 and 1,608 eligible voters were interviewed. It has a margin of error of 2.4%.
