Rizek & Asociados general manager Raul Rizek and Moya Supervisiones y Construcciones vice president Diego de Moya have told Diario Libre reporters that the construction works at the access road to the Multimodal Caucedo Port, La Caleta-Boca Chica area would be completed this month. The US$86 million contract covers over 10.5 km of road improvements in the area. As part of the first phase the companies are completing four pedestrian overpasses and two motorcycle overpasses, plus a U-turn that is 500 meters from the community of Andres. An overpass at the access road to Boca Chica is also under construction.
The second phase of the project will involve the construction of two overpasses, one at Km 1 measuring more than 400 meters in length on the highway to provide access to La Caleta. A second, with a bus terminal, will be located at Km 5, and will measure more than 300 meters in length. The works also include the reconstruction of the side roads, and the highway paving and illumination.
The works are being carried out with funds generated by the tolls.
The roadworks are aimed at reducing accidents and easing traffic flow in both directions. At present, traffic flows smoothly all the way from Punta Cana until it gets held up along the Boca Chica stretch. The new roadworks will improve traffic flow at the Multimodal Caucedo Port, La Caleta and Andres and Boca Chica intersections. The overpasses are being built with access to people with disabilities and a park has been included under every overpass.
