According to the latest epidemiological bulletin issued by the Health Ministry, 18 people have died of dengue since the beginning of the year, seven more than at the same time last year.
This year so far 14 people have died of cholera compared to 10 last year.
There have been 133 probable cases of dengue over the last week for a total of 585 over the last four weeks, 66% of which proved to be positive. The cases that have been notified have been in the National District and 13 provinces. So far this year there have been 3,455 probable cases of dengue.
In the area of maternal deaths, so far this year there have been 35 which is eight fewer than the same time last year and infant deaths have also decreased from 960 at this time last year to 632 so far this year. Last week, five women died of puerperal fever, also known as childbed fever, most aged around 25.
