Due to the heavy rainfall currently affecting much of the country and the fact that the forecast is for more rain, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) has issued a warning about floods, overflowing of rivers and streams and mudslides for the central provinces of La Vega and Monsenor Nouel (Bonao).
Flood alerts are also in place for the provinces of Santiago, Greater Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana.
Forecasters say there will be an increase in rainfall and thunderstorms in the afternoons in the provinces of Bahoruco, Barahona, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago Rodriguez, Santiago, Monsenor Nouel (Bonao), La Vega, Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), Monte Plata, San Cristobal (Villa Altagracia), San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey) and San Jose de Ocoa.
