Test runs were held for Line 2B of the Santo Domingo Metro over the long weekend of 1-2 May 2016. The line will be the first to link western and eastern Santo Domingo. OPRET, the Metro office, has plans for President Danilo Medina to ride the cars next week as part of general inspections. Despite the holiday, El Caribe reported that works continued at the four Line 2B stations along Av. San Vicente de Paul at the intersections with Av. Venezuela, Fernandez de Navarrete, Trina de Moya and Carretera Mella. The 800-meter long bridge over the Ozama River built for the train was completed on 13 April 2016. Two weeks ago, President Danilo Medina inspected the construction of the 2B Metro Line and the elevated cable car section of the line. The line is built at a cost of approximately US$385 million.
Opret spokesman Leonel Carrasco commented on the social impact of the fast transit train that will add new value to the eastern side of Greater Santo Domingo.
