President Danilo Medina inaugurated the traffic distribution system built by Rizek & Moya at the intersections with the Multimodal Caucedo Port and La Caleta Park near Las Americas International Airport on Friday, 29 April 2016. In his keynote speech, Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo highlighted the benefits of the overpass in terms of saving fuel and time, reducing vehicle operational costs and the positive impact on the environment, trade, tourism and industry. He said that they were building a series of transport solutions for the area and that the next would be the overpass at the intersection with Boca Chica, due for completion in July. The structures were designed for traffic to maintain speeds of 80-100 km per hour. An estimated 40,000 vehicles per hour use the highway every day.
