The Ministry of Energy and Mines presented the National Hydrocarbon Database developed by Schlumberger Limited on hydrocarbon resources in the country yesterday, Tuesday 3 May 2016. The Ministry says the data valued at US$100 million could mark the start of the oil exploration and production industry in the country. Minister of Energy and Mines Antonio Isa Conde said the database does not seek to create false expectations but to provide data to enable investors to reach concrete conclusions. The database, which contains information on 80 oil wells that have been drilled offshore or on land, will be used to grant oil exploration concessions.
The documents include 1,491 maps, 805 seismic profiles, 212 registrations of oil wells and 18,300 km of seismic lines in 2D and other geological, geophysical and seismic information compiled from several studies carried out since 1904.
