National Social Security Council general manager Rafael Perez Modesto says that 15 years after Social Security Law 87-01 was passed, 70% of the country is affiliated to a Family Health Plan (SFS) either in the paying or subsidized regimes. He said that the reach of the health plans was 46.2% in December 2011. At the close of the first quarter of 2016, 68.5% of the Dominican population had been affiliated, or 2,270,000 million people in five years.
Some 1.3 million people were affiliated to the subsidized regime during the past five years, for 3.3 million people registered in SeNaSa, the government health plan provider, according to a CNSS press release.
