Pressure on the JCE

The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) has called a meeting to discuss the proposals from the six opposition presidential candidates who have asked for a manual count across all three levels of the election; presidential, congressional and municipal.

Roberto Rosario said that the JCE had never bowed to pressure but that they had to listen to the candidates and then make a decision about their request. He did not say exactly when the meeting would take place but asked the country to have confidence in the electoral authorities.

Rosario said that any decision would be made by a majority vote.
