The Emergency Operations Center (COE) is maintaining four provinces and Greater Santo Domingo on green alert due to the risk of urban flooding and flash flooding of streams, creeks and any waterways combined with landslides. According to the latest COE bulletin, the provinces on alert are Duarte (particularly the lower Yuna Basin), Monte Plata, San Juan de la Maguana and San Pedro de Macoris.
The bulletin adds that 263 homes have been affected and 12 were destroyed. A total of 1375 people have been displaced from their homes and three highways and four bridges were seriously affected. Seven communities remain incommunicado.
The Ministry of Public Works says that the torrential rains led to the collapse of some of the concrete retaining walls along the Azua-Barahona highway. Ministry brigades are in the process of removing the rubble.
A landslide was also reported in Vicente Noble in the southwestern province of Barahona. Civil Defense reports that waters from the Jose Joaquin Puello canal in the community of Magueyal in San Juan the la Maguana flooded 10 houses with the loss of all belongings. Civil Defense is working together with the provincial Governor in the sectors of San Miguel, Canafistol and Mendieta, to remove rubble and restore vehicular traffic. Damage was also reported in San Pedro de Macoris and in the area of Cevicos.
