President Danilo Medina’s re-election campaign ends today, Thursday 12 May 2016, with what is expected to be the largest show of force by any political party. The campaign motorcade is scheduled to start at 3pm, setting out from Av. Nicolas de Ovando in northern Santo Domingo towards Av. Ortega y Gasset and then Calle Duarte to reach the Colonial City and then will end in the Parque Eugenio Maria de Hostos on the Malecon. Major congestion is also expected on Av. 27 de Febrero as the procession makes its way along the main city thoroughfares.
Electoral campaigning formally closes today and tomorrow. Dominicans are given a day off before deciding for whom they will vote on 13 and 14 May.
The PRM is scheduled to close their campaign on Friday, 13 May with caravans in Santiago, Santo Domingo East and the National District with a grand finale on the Malecon.
