After years of protests, often violent and led by activists from the Falpo group, the Santiago Water and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan) delivered a purchase order for RD$47 million yesterday, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 to the executives of the SANESAN Corporation to begin work on a new sewage system for the municipality of Licey Al Medio.
Coraasan’s chief executive, engineer Silvio Duran commented that this purchase order fulfills President Danilo Medina’s pledge to the small town in the north-central province of Santiago. Duran also made it clear that this project is quite costly because all the streets have to be dug up and repaved, but that all this was included in the budget.
The winner of the public tender was represented by Briccio Torres who will be in charge of the water treatment plant as well as the sewage lines.
During the event, held at the premises of the Moca and Licey al Medio Poultry Producers Association, deputy Luciana Alba, Abel Rodriguez, the president of the Committee for Development and Ambiorix Cabrera were all present together with traders, businesspeople, community leaders and neighborhood associations together with representatives of the farming community.
