The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has authorized manual vote count for the legislative and municipal elections this Sunday, 15 May 2016. Initially the JCE had only authorized a manual vote count for the presidential election. The JCE judges agreed to the request made by seven political parties running in the election. The only political party that did not make the request was the ruling PLD.
The JCE said, however, that the decision to not exclusively count by electronic scanners would delay the announcement of the results.
The procedure now is to scan the votes and once concluded, the manual vote will begin.
The JCE said in the case of any difference, the manual vote count would prevail.
