Early counts show David Collado ousting Salcedo

Despite getting on to a late start in March 2016, David Collado appears to have lived up to his name and pulled a David vs. Goliath against three-term (14-years) National District Mayor, Roberto Salcedo who was seeking a fourth term in the Sunday, 15 May 2016 general election. First results for the National District show Collado running for the PRM ahead with 57% to PLD’s Salcedo’s 36%.

On the campaign trail, Collado said he would prioritize restoring the Malecon oceanfront boulevard and the public cemeteries as well as installing underground electricity cables in the Colonial City. Collado also pledged to tackle the city’s chronic traffic chaos.

The PRM delayed its selection of the Santo Domingo candidate. Collado, a relatively unknown candidate, only had time to campaign for a month and a half, capitalizing on the rising criticism of the long-standing mayor.
