Carnival Corporation has announced that it has added another year of sailings to its new social impact brand Fathom as demand continues to grow for the new cruise line. New dates for the Fathom trips have been added through December 2017, sailing from Miami, Florida. The extension is both for the Dominican Republic social impact cruise to Puerto Plata and also on the cultural immersion trips to Cuba with stops at the Cuban ports of Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. The travelers sail on board the relatively small ship, the MV Adonia.
Fathom president Tara Russell gave the following statement: “We have been humbled by the tremendous response Fathom has received from travelers eager to experience Fathom while helping the Dominican Republic to flourish and making history through human connections and immersive experiences in Cuba.”
After arriving at Amber Cove port in Puerto Plata, passengers are given the opportunity to take part in social impact activities such as reforestation, community English, pouring cement floors in homes, teaching English in local schools, and creating water filters to provide clean drinking water for the locals.
Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald said that their decision to add another year of sailings was partly due to the positive feedback the cruise line has received from travelers, travel professionals, and community leaders who have taken one of the first few cruises on Fathom.
Prices for the seven night cruises to the Dominican Republic start at $974 per person with cruises to Cuba starting at $1,889 per person, excluding visas, taxes, and fees.
This year, Fathom became the first cruise line to sail to Cuba from the United States in over 50 years.
