The United States Coast Guard, in a joint operation with the Dominican Armada (Navy) has repatriated 44 out of 58 Dominicans who were found in the sea 36 nautical miles to the north east of Punta Cana on Saturday, 14 May 2016.
Twelve of them will be charged, one with illegal human trafficking and 11 for trying to reenter the United States.
According to a press release, another two will be taken to Puerto Rico to be processed for their previous immigration history.
Last Thursday, a US Coast Guard airplane spotted the boat with 58 Dominicans on board that was later intercepted by a US Coast Guard vessel with a helicopter on the scene in case any rescue attempts were needed.
