The National Statistics Office (ONE) reported yesterday, Tuesday 17 May 2016, that the petroleum and petroleum by-product imports (FOB values) for 2015 were US$2.69 billion, down US$1.36 billion or 33.6% compared to 2014 when imports reached US$4.05 billion. The decline allowed for an overall drop in imports of 2.3%, which benefited the balance of payments. If fuel imports are not taken into consideration, imports were up 7% last year.
The DR imports fuel (as crude and final products) mainly from the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Bahamas, and Trinidad & Tobago.
