Record week for water

The Santo Domingo Corporation of Aqueducts and Sewers (CAASD) has announced that it supplied between 413 and 415 million gallons of drinking water last week, a record for the institution.

CAASD director general Alejandro Montas said that all aqueducts are operating normally and had good levels of water leading to this historic water production level.

In 2015, the level of drinking water in Greater Santo Domingo fell below 270 million gallons a day due to the drought. Water trucks had to deliver water to the affected areas.

Montas said that due to that experience they were looking for alternative sources of water and they were reopening more than 64 wells in the east and north of the province.
