Deputy mayor-elect says she will be very active

Her husband former president of the Chamber of Deputies Alfredo Pacheco ran for mayor on the PRD ticket in 2010. Now Digna Reynoso has been elected as David Collado’s deputy mayor, running on the PRM ticket. She says she will not remain on the sidelines and wants to be active, in contrast with previous deputy mayors. Alfredo Pacheco was elected deputy for the PRM in the 2016 election.

In an interview with El Caribe, Reynoso said she would work with poor people in the barrios.

Reynoso herself is a former legislator (2006-2010) for the PRD. “I am convinced and confident that David will be different in assigning responsibilities for the deputy mayor,” she said. “He knows that I can be very useful for social and community work.”

Reynoso wants to reopen the Centro Futuro in the poor neighborhood of Cristo Rey to start an educational program there. She is also determined to apply Law 76-07 of the National District and to apply 4% of the budget to educational, gender and health programs. The deputy mayor-elect says she is very familiar with the needs of the residents of the capital city slum neighborhoods and enjoys working with the community. She wants to promote vocational schools in the barrios, and entrepreneurship, especially in women and young people, for the creation of micro-businesses. Digna Reynoso says that these days it is easier for someone to borrow RD$1 million to buy a car than to borrow RD$300,000 to open a beauty salon. She also proposes to improve services for senior citizens.
