Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito is asking Congress to approve a series of bills to strengthen the fight against crime and promote measures aimed at guaranteeing public safety. He called on the legislators to approve the bills on police reform, firearms, and the bill to regulate the nation’s correctional system and provide for the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners.
“If we are to improve effectiveness of fighting crime and achieving a Dominican Republic with higher levels of public safety, it is vital that our legislators approve these laws,” said Dominguez Brito. The Attorney General said that they have made some progress in recent months and despite the fact that the Dominican nation has one of the lowest levels of crime in the region, there is a need to continue strengthening the plan aimed at maintaining public order. After listing the positive effects of these legislative proposals, he issued a call to the senators and deputies to prioritize their approval.
