With 87% of the vote counted for the presidential election, President Danilo Medina of the ruling PLD and allies maintains a strong lead with 61.70% of the vote to 35.09% of the vote for leading challenger Luis Abinader of the PRM and allies. According to Bulletin 8 issued by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) on Wednesday 18 May 2016, of 6,765,245 eligible voters, 4,110,201 or 60.75% voted in the election.
The actual results confirm that the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner polling company’s projections were the most correct. Forecasting that President Danilo Medina would win with 60%, followed by Luis Abinader with 37%, the Greenberg-Diario Libre poll came closest to the actual results, right on target when the margin of error is taken into account.
“The precision of a trustworthy poll is critical before an election, for the voters, for the national leaders and especially for the democratic processes,” stated Greenberg vice president Jessica Reis, who directed the poll in the Dominican Republic. “Our knowledge of the Dominican Republic and our commitment to using the best technology has resulted in us being again the most precise among international and local polling companies,” she said.
