The Plaza de la Salud General Hospital (HGPS) has announced the opening of a clinic specializing in the detection and treatment of Zika. The clinic, which opens this Monday, 23 May 2016, will serve people who are not covered by health plans.
The Zika Clinic on the third floor of the HGPS Primary Care (Atencion Primaria) building is directed by Dr. Rita Rojas, coordinator of the Infectology Department at the medical center. HGPS chairman Dr. Julio Castanos Guzman said that the clinic would also provide advice on how to prevent the disease and homecare to prevent others from getting sick. Services and pharmaceuticals will be free for low-income patients without insurance coverage. Pregnant teenagers will be given priority in the tests.
According to reports, the United States government has donated 2,000 testing kits (Trioplex-RTPCR) from the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) for detecting the disease at the Laboratorio Nacional Dr. Defillo.
