President Danilo Medina chose his home province of San Juan de la Maguana, where his sister Lucia (Yomaira) Medina Sanchez has been re-elected deputy for his first post-election weekend visit yesterday, Sunday 22 May 2016.
Political analysts say that Lucia Medina’s high share of the vote helped Felix Bautista retain his senate seat. Both are members of the PLD Central Committee. Bautista is the organizational secretary of the ruling party and Medina is vice president of the Chamber of Deputies.
The media has reported the re-election of Felix Bautista with a high vote, despite the fact that he is perceived as one of the most corrupt individuals in the world by Transparency International’s Unmask the Corrupt poll, as senator for San Juan de la Maguana.
Bautista has been taken to court on several occasions but has been able to maneuver to ensure his case has never been heard.
The Attorney General has accused Bautista of amassing RD$26 billion in wealth during the years he directed the Office of Supervisory Works of the State (OISOE) during the governments of President Leonel Fernandez (1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012).
