Rains to continue and alerts still in place

According to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) rain and thunderstorms will affect much of the country due to the combination of two weather fronts over the southwestern Caribbean.

Onamet say that the heaviest and most frequent rains will fall in the northwest, north, southeast, the border region and the central mountain range. The rains will become less frequent as the week goes on.

Alerts are still in place for flooding, overflowing of rivers and mudslides in the provinces of Pedernales, Barahona, Azua, San Juan de la Maguana, San Jose de Ocoa, Peravia (Bani), Bahoruco, San Cristobal, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Monte Plata, La Altagracia (Higuey) and Greater Santo Domingo.

Onamet also reports the formation of the first tropical wave of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season south of Jamaica. The storm is moving westwards and will not affect weather in the Dominican Republic.
