AMET cracks down on motorcycle drag races

The Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) announced the seizure of seven motorcycles adapted for illegal races in an operation on Sunday, 22 May 2016. As reported, five people were arrested for violating Transit Law 241. The motorcycles were seized on the 6 de Noviembre Highway in San Cristobal with three at the Cruce de Cambita and three more were confiscated at the point known as Puente de Lecheria, as were about to start an illegal race. Another was seized later. AMET said that the men threw rocks and other objects at the law enforcement agents during the operation.

AMET reports that in the past five months they have dismantled 20 organizers of clandestine races on highways, seizing 80 motorcycles. The confiscated motorcycles were taken to the Centro de Retencion El Coco and Hatillo law enforcement station in San Cristobal.
