Three groups of illegal immigrants arrested

The United States authorities have arrested 29 illegal immigrants, 28 Cubans and a Dominican woman who were trying to enter Puerto Rico illegally.

The US Customs and Border Protection service (CBP) announced that the arrests were made on Sunday, 22 May 2016 when they were notified of the presence of a 20-foot long boat off the north coast of the island.

CBP agents arrested two Cubans and a Dominican woman who were taken to hospital suffering from dehydration.

Later the same day more immigrants were found, seven men and three women, all Cuban. They were taken by Coast Guard helicopter to the Ramey base at Aguadilla airport in the northwest of the island where the migration process began.

The third interception took place on Monday, 23 May when another group of illegal Cubans were found, 12 men and four women who landed on Playa Sardinera on Mona Island between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. One of the men was taken by helicopter to hospital suffering from an allergic reaction and the rest were taken to Ramey base for processing.
