DR is top destination for Brit summer vacations

According to UK newspaper The Daily Mirror, the Dominican Republic tops the list for summer 2016 breaks. Good value is one of the main reasons, with examples such as Club Med Punta Cana selling a weeklong holiday for ?1,134 per adult compared to ?1,944 for the same period in Gregolimano, Greece.

The newspaper says that many Brits are switching their European vacations for a long-haul trip to the Caribbean, motivated also by concerns over terrorism in Europe.

“The last 12 months has seen a surge in holidaymakers booking further afield – due to cheaper foreign exchange and European safety concerns – with France and Greece among countries that have seen a sharp drop in travelers,” reports The Mirror.

It quotes Club Med figures that show that Mexico, the United States, the Dominican Republic and Mauritius are destinations that have shown a dramatic rise in popularity as a third of UK tourists have ditched traditional European favorites for long-haul holidays.

As reported, “wanderlust” and a desire to explore, the length of flight to get there, and local events such as carnivals and festivals are all key factors in their holiday choices.

The newspaper also mentions some fantastic deals that are being offered to Brits traveling to the DR. For instance comparison website Holiday Pirates has flights to beach destinations in the Dominican Republic for ?238 return from London and Manchester to Punta Cana.
