This evening, Tueday 31 May 2016, millions of Dominicans will sit down to watch the show of the year. The 32nd Soberano Awards start at 7pm with the red carpet walks followed by the ceremony, all broadcast live from the newly remodeled National Theater. Producer Edilenia Tactuk has booked performances by J Balvin, Gente de Zona, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Nacho, Jose Alberto “El Canario,” Choc-Quib Town, Ilegales, Gabriel, Mozart la Para, Shadow Blow, Sharlene Taule and Maridalia Hernandez. The event is organized by the Association of Show Business Writers and sponsored by the Presidente beer brewery.
Red carpet commentary will be made by Dominicans Mariela Encarnacion, who works for CNN en Espanol and Tony Dandrades, who works for Univision.
It was announced that Soberano Internacional awards would be presented to JBalvin, a Colombian singer-songwriter best known for his urban music and reggaeton, and to Gente de Zona. The New York Band will receive the Soberano al Merito award. Gilberto Santa Rosa will be honored with a Soberano Especial award.
The Soberano Awards recognize the work of 235 artists nominated in four categories: popular, communications, films and classical.
