The Fundacion Vida Sin Violencia, an organization that campaigns for a life free of violence, says that 43 women have suffered violent deaths so far this year.
Foundation president Yanira Fondeur de Hernandez said that Congress must pass a new law to eradicate violence against women. According to statistics, 18 of the victims were shot, 12 stabbed, six suffocated, three set on fire, one was beaten to death and the cause of death of three is unknown.
She said that the women’s ages ranged from 17 to 49 and that more than 20 children have been orphaned.
Most of the victims were in the north of the country with 19 in Santiago and nine in the capital.
