Over 800 Dominicans repatriated so far this year

Around 440 Dominicans convicted for drug trafficking in the United States have been repatriated in the first five months of 2016 and another 408 for other crimes.

Those convicted for drug trafficking include 426 men and 14 women. Another 68 of the 848 repatriated had completed sentences for robbery and assault, document fraud, rape and kidnapping.

They are repatriated every 15 days on special flights but also sometimes on regular airlines from the United States.

The United States authorities confiscate drug traffickers’ assets and properties on the grounds that they were bought with drug money.

It appears that more than 7,000 Dominicans are still serving sentences across the United States for a range of crimes.
