Take Altos de Chavon students to the Berlin University of the Arts

Art students at La Romana’s Altos de Chavon School of Design have launched a Kickstarter drive to raise funds to be able to complete a performance begun with students of the Universitat der Kunste in Berlin. The Dominican students have been invited to participate in the performance as part of graduation events at the Berlin University of the Arts, one of the biggest, most diversified and traditional universities of the arts in the world.

The Altos de Chavon School of Design students wish to visit Berlin to complete the project and exchange program that began with the visit of German students to Altos de Chavon for a two-week immersion sponsored by the Davidoff Arts Initiative.

Professor Jimmy Robert (1975, Guadeloupe/Bucharest) was one of Davidoff artists in residence in Altos de Chavon who also included Paolo Chiasera (1978, Berlin/Bologna), Oscar Santillan (1980, Ecuador/Amsterdam), and Louis Henderson (1986, London/Paris) in collaboration with Ana Vaz. The artists spent close to three months living and working at Altos de Chavon, mixing with students and faculty members who live on campus.

The Kickstarter campaign will enable Altos de Chavon students to attend UdK professor Jimmy Robert’s class in Berlin for two weeks and show the final performance at the Rundgang Event of the UdK in Berlin in July 2016 with all the original performers present.

The students’ drive began on 30 May 2016 and they have one month to raise EUR10,000 to fund the performance of the Dominican arts students in Berlin.
