The police have announced that they are investigating the death of a free zone factory manager in Esperanza in the northeastern province of Valverde amidst violent protests by the Popular Front, FALPO.
The victim was 54-year old Luis de Jesus Almonte, and it is still not clear how he died. According to some eyewitnesses he was shot when he arrived to work at the Top Choice factory, while others say that he was caught in crossfire between protestors and the authorities.
FALPO protestors were demanding the release of their spokesman and asking for a manual recount of the votes after the election.
Ezperanza was virtually locked down as National Police agents patrolled the streets with tear gas and heavy-duty weapons
