Haiti export ban costs DR US$800 million

The restrictions imposed by the Haitian authorities on the export of 23 products could cost the Dominican Republic US$800 million a year, according to consultant Vladimir Pimentel, while presenting a report “Non-Tariff Barriers to Trade Between the Dominican Republic and Haiti,” sponsored by the European Union. The Haitian government has banned these products from entering by land and only authorizes their import via sea and air.
