After more than a week on hunger strike, Manuel Jimenez, who ran for mayor in Santo Domingo East, was hospitalized at the Centro Medico UCE in Santo Domingo yesterday, Thursday 2 June 2016. He has been on hunger strike since last Friday, 27 May 2016 with several other candidates who are demanding the annulment of the election in Santo Domingo East and calling for new elections to be held. He ran for the Frente Amplio. Dr. Freddy Jimenez, who was monitoring his health during the hunger strike at the Paz y Bien Church in Santo Domingo East, said that Jimenez was very dehydrated and that his blood pressure had dropped significantly. Jimenez was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital to restore his vital signs.
